Middle East Paper Co. (MEPCO) reported a net profit after zakat and tax of SAR 2.6 million for the first nine months of 2019, a plunge of 97 percent year-on-year (YoY) on lower selling prices, higher selling and distribution expenses and fair value losses on derivative financial instruments.

 

Higher finance costs also weighed on the nine month figures.

MEPCO’s Q3 net profit after zakat and tax also tumbled 97.1 percent YoY to SAR 858,000 due to lower selling prices, higher selling and distribution expenses

 

The company turned profitable in Q3, from a net loss of SAR 4 million in the previous quarter, driven by higher sales volumes and a decline in the cost of sales per ton, as well as general and administrative expenses.

 

A drop in impairment loss allowance on accounts receivable also bolstered profit.
