Ceremony of receiving licenses for Red and Green Lines

The Transport General Authority (TGA) announced the issuance of operating licenses for the Red and Green Lines of the Riyadh Metro project.

The licenses were granted to Capital Metro Co. (CAMCO), the operator of the Red Line, and Flow Consortium, the operator of the Green Line, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The licenses were issued after both companies fulfilled operational requirements, TGA noted.

It stressed that this step aligns with the authority's primary role of supervising the railway sector in the Kingdom to ensure the Riyadh Metro operates in compliance with the highest standards of safety and quality.

The licenses require operators to adhere to strict safety, quality, and operational efficiency standards to provide advanced public transport services meeting resident needs and enhancing the public transport experience in Riyadh.

The Kingdom will launch Line 2 (Red) and Line 5 (Green) of the Riyadh Metro (King Abdulaziz Road) on Dec. 15, according to data available with Argaam.

The Red Line spans 25.3 km from King Saud University to King Fahd Sports City, passing through King Abdullah Road. The Green Line stretches 12.9 km from King Abdulaziz Road to King Abdullah Road.

TGA previously signed the operation and maintenance (O&M) contract for Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro project with the Capital Metro Consortium, led by the French company RATP Dev, which holds an 80% stake of the consortium, while SAPTCO owns the remaining 20%.

The authority granted the O&M contract for Lines 3, 4, 5, and 6 to the Flow Consortium, comprising the French company Alstom and Italian companies Ansaldo STS and Ferrovie dello Stato.
