The signing of the agreement
Riyadh Air, a new carrier for Saudi Arabia and part of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), signed a strategic nine-year agreement with Atlético Madrid to rename the Spanish club's stadium to Riyadh Air Metropolitano until 2033.
The new stadium name will be officially unveiled on Oct. 20 during the upcoming match, the company stated in a press release.
This move, the company added, is part of a broader partnership agreement signed between Riyadh Air and Atlético de Madrid on Aug. 10, 2023. Under this agreement, Riyadh Air has become the official sponsor, exclusive airline partner, and naming rights partner of the club.
The agreement also includes featuring the Riyadh Air logo on the front of Atlético Madrid's jerseys and official kits.
Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, stated that the company is committed to strengthening this partnership with Atlético de Madrid until 2033 and looks forward to building a long-term relationship with this historic club.
He added that having Riyadh Air's name on this historic global sports landmark not only represents a strategic step to enhance the company's presence in the global sports arena but also contributes to elevating the status of the Kingdom, Riyadh city, and the company on the international stage. According to data available on Argaam, Tony Douglas stated last May that the company is working closely with aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus to ensure the launch of its flights in the summer of 2025 as planned.
In March 2023, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced PIF's establishment for Riyadh Air that aims to launch flights to more than 100 destinations worldwide by 2030.
