Majid Alkassabi, Minister of Commerce
Majid Alkassabi, Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO), gave the go-ahead for amending the Executive Regulations of the Saudi Building Code Application Law.
The code aims to set the minimum requirements and conditions to ensure safety and public health through the durability and stability of buildings and facilities, while taking into account universal access, provision of a healthy environment, adequate lighting and ventilation. This also includes rationalization of water and energy, as well as protection of lives and property from the dangers of fire, earthquakes and other risks associated with buildings.
The code is applied to all building and construction works in the public and private sectors as per the classification of buildings, including building design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and modification. It is also applied to existing buildings in case of restoration, change of use, expansion, modification, or demolition, starting from the date of implementing the law. By the end of the implementation stages, the code will be applied to all types of buildings classified in it.
