The 2,200 kilometer-long railway network that will link the GCC states from Kuwait City to the Omani capital Muscat is currently in progress, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper has reported, citing the GCC Assistant Secretary General for Economic and Development Affairs.
"Tenders to build the railway network that will connect the six GCC states are being prepared," Khalifa said Al-Abri said.
Designs of infrastructure and communication systems have been already completed, he noted, adding that construction of the UAE-Saudi railway network is moving forward, with routes in Bahrain and Kuwait now planned.
The rail network is meant to connect key points within the UAE, but will also extend across the GCC, connecting all six countries in the region.
