By 2030, Jabal Omar Development Company plans to operate 15 hotels in Jabal Omar, a mega development project within a walking distance of The Grand Mosque of Makkah, a senior executive recently told Argaam.
“We plan to open Double Tree Jabal Omar by next month, hopefully, which will be our sixth hotel. The last hotel will be opening in the seventh phase which will be the Four Seasons,” Reema Tariq Al Mokhtar, head of destination marketing, Jabal Omar said in an interview at the Arabian Travel Market on Monday.
Currently, the Tadawul-listed company operates five hotels, comprising almost 3,000 rooms, in the mega project.
Meanwhile, Jabal Omar is expecting occupancy levels of 85 percent during the Ramadan as it plans to host “Layal Al Khalil” (Al Khalil Nights) event for the first time ever in Makkah.
“The event is targeting everyone who is coming to Makkah and wants to learn about Makkah and the history of Islam. So, we will have a beautiful mix of personalized experience, virtual reality and a dome with all the beautiful stories, which means we going to attract a lot of people over that event,” Al Mokhtar said.
The developer has started selling hotel units in its last project, overlooking the Grand Mosque at a premium. A 40 square meter unit costs SAR 2.7 million.
“You are talking about the most expensive plot in the world. We are competing with Japan and New York and so Makkah is the hotspot,” Al Mokhtar stated.
