Saudi Arabia has suspended Whatsapp’s voice and video call services as the app failed to meet the regulatory requirements, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported, citing Abdulaziz Al-Ruwais governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC).
Other voice and video call services are available in the Kingdom, he said on the sidelines of the ICT Indicators Forum 2019, which was held in Riyadh on Wednesday.
CITC does not mind selling open pre-paid data cards, but the internationally implemented regulations and policies do not allow that for the time being, he said.
As for introducing new telecom firm to the Saudi market, Al-Ruwais said that there’s no plan to welcome new telcos for now, adding that should the market needs more service providers, new firms will be licensed.
