Construction will begin on Qiddiya, Saudi Arabia's megaproject, this year, Qiddiya Investment Company said in a recent tweet.
"2018 saw the successful groundbreaking of Qiddiya and 2019 will see the launch of Qiddiya’s construction phase bringing us one step closer to materializing our dream of building Saudi’s first entertainment and sports city," the developer said in a tweet.
Qiddiya Investment Company CEO Michael Reininger also confirmed to Arab News that planning and design were complete last year and will be implemented this year.
The 334 square kilometers entertainment, sports and cultural destination, located on the outskirts of Riyadh, will be built over three phases until 2035.
The megaproject is expected to contribute around SAR 17 billion to the Kingdom’s GDP by 2030 and to provide 57,000 jobs.
