The number of subscribers for Saudi Arabia’s health insurance system rose by 0.12 percent year-on-year (YoY) to 12.06 million in 2017, the annual report of the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) showed.
The number of Saudi subscribers stood at 2.73 million last year, representing around 23 percent of the total number of subscribers, while the number of foreign subscribers totalled 9.32 million, or 77 percent.
Medical insurance accounted for 52 percent of the kingdom’s insurance market during the same period.

A total of 4,358 insurers provided medical coverage in 2017, down 1 percent YoY. A total of 4,190 insurers provided medical coverage services in the private sector, while 168 insurance companies provided services to the public sector entities.
A total of 1,479 insurers were located in Riyadh and 929 in the Eastern Province.
