Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology seeks to boost the mobile internet speed by 150 percent to 28 megabytes per second (MBps), Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing minister Abdullah bin Amer Alswaha.
The ministry also targets to reach an internet speed of 45 MBps by 2020, the minister added.
“We will extend fiber optics networks to 700 households by year-end and to 3.5 million households by 2020,” he explained.
The Kingdom recently eyes several partnerships with the private sector to develop the telecommunications and information technology infrastructure, especially high-speed broadband, expand coverage and improve quality.
