Sahara Petrochemical Co. on Friday declared an emergency shutdown in the plant of its subsidiary, Al Waha Petrochemical Co., due to a technical defect in the cold box unit, the company said in a statement to Tadawul.
As the company is already prepared for the comprehensive turnaround maintenance scheduled for Q1 2019, the management has decided to carry out the comprehensive periodic maintenance early during the current period, the statement said.
“This will allow an increase in the quality of the plant and will ensure the continuity of the operations during 2019,” it added.
The repair and turnaround maintenance work is expected to be completed in no more than 30 days, indicating a loss of approximately SAR 42 million according to current polypropylene prices, which will reflect in the Q4 results.
During this period, customers will be supplied from the reserve stock in the warehouses, the statement said.
