The National Water Company (NWC) announced the launch of a wastewater pipeline from Manfoha treatment plant to the new treatment plant in the south of Riyadh.
The pipeline is one of the most important strategic projects for developing environmental services and achieving environmental balance in Riyadh, according to NWC’s statement.
The three phases of the project have been completed at a total cost of SAR 700 million.
The pipeline was installed using the tunnel boring technology for 11.8 kilometres along with normal excavation of 25.2 kilometres.
“The project included the execution of a 37 kilometres pipeline with a capacity of 800,000 cubic metres of raw sewage. The project is a quantum leap and conforms to the highest environmental wastewater treatment standards,” said Eng Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Mowkley, the CEO of NWC.
The project will serve more than one million residents in southern and western Riyadh districts, hitting a four million mark by the completion of all wastewater projects which will connect Riyadh to the main wastewater pipeline.
