Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to China’s Wison Engineering Co. to establish a number of testing plants and facilities at SABIC Technology Center in Jubail.
The project, expected to be complete by 2020, represents phase I of the technology center expansion plan which will also include building a new research facility, SABIC said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.
Work in the integrated complex, which comprises the new project and the research facility, is expected to be finalized by 2021. Upon completion, it will tackle several research fields, including chemicals, polymers, metals, and chemical catalysis.
Under the new contract, five testing facilities will be established, while another three are being currently constructed. The new facilities will enhance operations.
The new technology center will span 500,000 square meters and will comprise more than 800 experts.
