Health council fines 150 firms for failing to provide employees with insurance: report

The Saudi Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) has suspended services for 150 private firms since the beginning of 2018 for violating regulations, Al-Madinah newspaper reported on Wednesday, citing CCHI’s spokesman Yasser Al-Maarik.

 

The firms will be fined for failing to provide health services to their employees. The penalty could also include prohibiting such firms from recruiting expat employees.

 

Employers who have not purchased medical insurance for their employees and their families or failed to pay premiums are asked to pay all due installments, he added.

 

CCHI handles private sector violation reports confidentially, he said.

 

Employers are not allowed to deduct any percentage of the premium from the worker’s salary and cannot limit the coverage to a particular number of family members, Al-Maarik added.
