The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen has issued a statement expressing regret for “mistakes” made in an airstrike that struck a school bus in August.
Over 40 children were killed in the attack in Northern Yemen last month.
The Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) looked into allegations surrounding the operation in Sa’dah Governorate and found mistakes in compliance with the Rules of Engagement, the statement said.
“Thereupon, the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition expresses regret over the mistakes, extends its sympathies, condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims and announces its acceptance of the results and findings of JIAT,” the coalition said.
The Joint Forces Command will undertake legal proceedings against those responsible.
Meanwhile, a joint committee will be tasked with granting assistance and compensation to those affected, the statement said.
