A total of 45,687 hotel rooms are under construction in Saudi Arabia, STR Global said in its July 2018 pipeline report.
Dubai topped the list with the largest number of rooms under construction, totaling 50,094, it added.
Hotel supply in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) continued to grow, as the region registered a total of 560 properties with 147,700 rooms under construction, a 27.5 percent increase year-on-year (YoY).
The consultancy said 415 hotels - equivalent to 121,233 rooms - were under construction in the Middle East in July, while the remainder were in the African region.
A total of 29,145 rooms in 121 hotels were in the final planning stages, up 58.4 percent YoY. The number of rooms in planning stage totaled 56,114 in 207 properties, 6.5 percent higher than July 2017.
However, Africa registered a decline in hotel supply growth, with 145 hotels currently under construction, comprising 26,467 rooms, down 7.1 percent YoY.
A total of 48 properties, representing 8,490 rooms, were in the final planning stages in Africa, 2.2 percent lower YoY, the report added.
