The Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has confirmed allowing the three local telecom operators to sell their transmitter towers or set up new spinoffs, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported on Wednesday, citing a CITC statement.
The move will strengthen competition in telecommunications infrastructure and digital technology.
It will also enable wholesale infrastructure providers to focus on the retail sector and offer the best products at competitive prices, the statement added.
Meanwhile, local or foreign investors are only allowed to apply for wholesale infrastructure licenses after fulfilling the necessary requirements.
The telecom sector regulator in July issued a new license to offer wholesale infrastructure services, to promote competition and increase the wholesale services to the licensed in the infrastructure (fixed and wireless access), Argaam reported.
