Canada plans to seek help from the UAE and Britain to resolve the escalating dispute with Saudi Arabia, while the United States said that it will not get involved, Reuters reported Tuesday citing sources.
On Sunday, the Kingdom recalled its ambassador to Ottawa and ordered the Canadian envoy to Riyadh to leave within 24 hours, in addition to freezing all new trade and investment with Canada over its interference in Saudi Arabia’s internal affairs.
The Canadian side noted that it does not know what will happen to the signed defense contract worth $13 billion to sell Canadian-made General Dynamics Corp armored vehicles to Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s main wheat-buying agency told grains exporters it will no longer purchase Canadian-origin wheat and barley, Reuters added.
The Kingdom has also decided to suspend educational exchange programs with Ottawa and called on 15,000 Saudi students to leave Canada.
