Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has issued a new license to offer wholesale infrastructure services, to promote competition and increase the wholesale services to the licensed in the infrastructure (fixed and wireless access), the commission said in a statement Thursday.
CITC highlighted that this would reduce costs for the network operators in line with the global trends, as it offers the possibility of tower sharing of the existing telecom firms or those wish to sell or transfer the property of their communication towers.
The license would also lead to the entrance of new investors to the market, in addition to creating job and investment opportunities and raising the networks’ efficiency.
The commission added that the services would include building, owning, operating and selling the telecommunication infrastructure elements, such as towers and masts, small cells, distributed antenna system (DAS) and wireless access points.
