Saudi Arabia signed deals with Comoros at a value of $22 million to finance water and road infrastructure in the poor Indian Ocean island nation and expand the Kingdom’s presence among its gulf rivals, Reuters reported Wednesday.
The agreements were signed on Tuesday during a meeting between the Saudi interior minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef, and his host President Azali Assoumani in in the Comoros capital Moroni, according to Comoros officials.
“Saudi Arabia is ready to support Comorians in their push to have an emerging country by 2030,” Yahya Mohamed Ilyasa, Advisor of President Assoumani, said to the reporters, highlighting that the Saudi Interior Minister was bearing a message from King Salman.
