Saudi Airlines Cargo Co. (Saudia Cargo) has recently signed agreements with major companies to build a new cargo handling facility at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA).
The agreements were signed with the following three companies:
- Al-Bawani, which will be in charge of construction and implementation of the project.
- Siemens, which will supply the facility with advanced mechanical equipment and cargo handling systems.
- AECOM, which will act as the supervisor of the engineering works.
The new 75,000-square meters cargo handling facility has double area of the current one of 35,000-square meters, said Omar Hariri, CEO of Saudia Cargo.
The first phase of the project starts this month and is expected to be finished by November 2019. The second phase begins June 2020 and ends December 2021 as per the implementation plan, Hariri said.
The project will enhance Saudia Cargo’s operational capacity as well as its handling capabilities for hazardous material, pharmaceuticals, frozen materials and different goods, he said.
The new facility comes as part of the firm’s strategy 2020 and in-line with Vision 2030, aiming to turn the Kingdom into a global logistics and economic hub, he added.
