Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority extended the bid submission date of Al-Dur 2 independent water and power project (IWPP) to June 27, MEED reported Monday, citing a source of knowledge.
The original deadline set at first was on February 28 and it was extended three times after that, the source added explaining that it was extended to give the developers more time to work on proposals.
The capacity of the project is planned to reach 1200-1500MW, which is due to be online by June 2020. EWA will purchase the power under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), MEED said.
EWA expects that electricity consumption in Bahrain will continue to increase by an annual average of up to 6.4 percent until 2020, after recording 3.5 percent in 2015.
