Saudi Arabia’s inflation rate rose to 2.8 percent in March, following the introduction of value-added tax and energy price hikes, data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.
The cost of living index increased to 107.9 points in March, compared to 105 points in the same month of 2017.
The statistics authority changed the base year for the consumer price index to 2013 from 2007.
Out of the main Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket, ten groups increased in March, with tobacco surging 54.1 percent.
Two other groups declined, led by apparel and footwear, which fell by 7.6 percent.
