Kuwait to begin work on $7 bln Oman oil refinery this month

Kuwait will commence work on the $7 billion Al Duqm refinery and petrochemical industries complex in Oman this month, the Kuwaiti state news agency reported, citing Bakheet Al Rashidi, minister of oil, electricity and water.

 

The foundation stone for the project will be laid on April 26, the minister said.

 

The Al Duqm Refinery will be established on a 900-hectare land and on completion it will have the capacity to process 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day for both local and international markets, said Al Rashidi.  

 

The refinery and the complex are being built by a joint venture between Oman Oil Company and Kuwait Petroleum International.

 

Last month, Times of Oman reported that the initial mobilisation of Duqm Refinery is scheduled to commence in Q3 2018, with three separate engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) packages being awarded.
