Mobile subscribers in Saudi Arabia down 8% in 2017

The number of mobile subscribers in Saudi Arabia dropped 8 percent year-on-year (YoY) to 40.2 million in 2017, with a market penetration rate of 126.7 percent.

 

Prepaid subscriptions accounted for 74.8 percent, or 30.1 million of total users, according to data issued by the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC).

 

The number of fixed-line subscribers stood at 3.64 million in 2017, the data showed. The number of residential line subscribers was 1.9 million, accounting for 53 percent of total lines.

 

Meanwhile, broadband users rose to 29.7 million during the year.

 

The number of internet users in the Kingdom rose to 26.1 million, rising 10 percent YoY in 2017, with a penetration rate of 82 percent.
