The Jeddah-based King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) will start trial run next May as scheduled, a General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) official told Makkah Deputy Governor in a meeting on Sunday.

Operations will begin through six gates for domestic flights, while the remaining gates for domestic and international flights will be gradually launched by the end of this year, the official added.

Last month, the aviation sector regulator terminated contracts with Changi Airports International (CAI) and Saudi Naval Support Home for the operation and management of Jeddah’s new airport, Argaam reported.

In April 2017, GACA awarded a 20-year contract to a consortium led by CAI to operate KAIA, Argaam earlier reported.
