Saudi Arabia has approved new energy efficiency standards for new and existing manufacturing facilities, Al-jazirah newspaper has reported.
The standards seek to enforce the best practices of energy consumption for local companies operating in the petrochemicals, cement and steel manufacturing sectors.
The standards will take effect as of 2019, afterwards companies that fail to abide by the standards may face fines, the newspaper said.
According to the energy efficiency report published by the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC), three business sectors consume 90 percent of local energy: constructions, transport and industrialization.
