The new public transport service launched this week in Riyadh and Jeddah is likely to provide over a thousand new jobs at present, and 4000 others when the project is finalized, Al-Watan daily reported.
The newspaper cited Saeed Al-Basami, deputy chairman of the National Committee of Transportation at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Al-Basami told the newspaper that the government has commissioned nearly 600 buses in either city for the first phase, and the number will rise to 2000 vehicles when project is completed.
The service covers Riyadh and Jeddah only, and seeks to raise service standards and enhance road safety. It will partly replace incumbent private service providers.
