Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health is evaluating bids for the second phase of King Faisal Medical City (KFMC) and is expected to award the main construction contract by early March 2018, Zawya reported, citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter.
The move came as Almajal Alarabi Holding, which won the project contract in January 2018 after submitting the lowest bid at $309.7 million, withdrew from the project.
The cost of the second phase is estimated at SAR 1.15 billion.
Bidders for the project include Al Bawani Company, Salini Impregilo, Bin Jarallah Establishment for Trading & General Contracting (Bin Jarallah Group), Al Fouzan Trading & General Construction Company, and Al Rashid Trading & Contracting Co.
Phase 2 of the medical city would be developed on a total land area of 260,000 square meters, and is expected to be finalized by Q1 2021, another unnamed source told Zawya.
The work scope includes construction of medical centers, facilities buildings, an administrative building, underground parking, a convention centre, a hotel as well as utilities and infrastructure works.
The clinical capacity of the KFMC totals 1,350 beds. In 2012, Saudi Arabia signed an agreement to kick-start construction of the SAR 4 billion medical city project in Assir.
The contract for the first stage with a capacity of 500 beds was assigned to Al Fouzan Trading and General Construction Co. Phase 1 was completed in 2016.
