King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) has signed a contract with Metito Saudi Ltd (Metito) to construct a solar-powered water desalination plant at a total value of SAR 220 million ($58.6 million), it said in statement.
The water treatment plant will start operating with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day, which will be expanded to 60,000 cubic meters per day.
The project will be completed in 24 months, with the plant slated to begin production in the first quarter of 2020.
The new plant is aimed at increasing the production capacity of drinking water to meet the needs of new projects and the growing population in the city.
