Saudi Arabia to build 9 desalination plants worth SAR 2 bln

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman issued a royal decree on building nine water desalination plants on the Red Sea coast at an investment cost of over SAR 2 billion, minister of environment, water and agriculture, Abdulrahman Al-Fadli, said.

 

The new facilities will be completed in less than 18 months and will operate at a total capacity of 240,000 cubic meters daily.

 

These plants will play a vital role in enhancing the quality and coverage of water services across the Kingdom, in line with the Saudi National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020.

 

They will also help the state-run Saline Water Conversion Corp (SWCC) enhance production efficiency and cut capital and operating costs.
