Saudia plans move to new King Abdulaziz International Airport in May

Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) is expected to start relocating to the new King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah from May 1, Al-Madinah newspaper reported, citing spokesman Abdulrahman Al Tayeb.

 

Relocating to any airport usually takes from 12 to 18 months, he said.

 

Consultations are ongoing over with the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Singapore-based Changi Airport Group, the airport operator, over the actual date of opening and transfer of operations, he added.

 

The airport is expected to be operational by next Ramadan.

 

A deal worth SAR 27.11 billion was signed with Saudi Binladin Group in 2010 to implement the first development phase of Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport, which aimed to increase the airport’s capacity to 30 million passengers annually.
