Dammam Airports Co. (DACO) has awarded Spainish consultancy firm Ineco the contract to develop a masterplan for King Fahd International Airport (KFIA), the company said in a statement.
No further details were mentioned about the contract value.
Under the development 30-year plan that extends until 2047, Ineco will expand all airport facilities to meet growing passenger demand and study linking its cargo area to Saudi Arabia’s main rail freight line.
A new airport city will be also developed along with a cargo village, which is already underway.
Passenger traffic at Dammam’s airport has increased at an annual compounded average of 10.7 percent since 2009 to 9.68 million in 2016, the consultancy firm added.
Ineco was among the Spanish consortium that won a contract to develop the high-speed rail between Makkah and Madinah.
