Riyadh-based ACWA Power Co. has inaugurated the $1 billion (SAR 3.75 billion) Kirikkale power plant in Turkey, the company said in a statement on Sunday.
The combined cycle power plant has a capacity of 1,000 MW and is capable of meeting three percent of Turkey’s total electricity demand.
The plant is the first and largest of Saudi energy investments in Turkey’s power sector, the statement said.
It was inaugurated in a ceremony hosted by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, along with energy minister Berat Albayrak.
Over 2,000 local engineers and workers were employed in the construction process, which started in December 2014.
