Saudi Arabia's Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) on Tuesday directed mobile operators to suspend the decision linking recharge of pre-paid SIM cards to verified identities starting from today, Nov. 15.
The new decision will allow users to top up their pre-paid accounts without entering their national ID number, as the applicable procedures aim to limit the large number of unregistered SIM cards in the market, CITC said in a statement.
In July 2012, the telecom regulator ruled that all mobile users must enter their national ID number before recharging pre-paid SIM cards.
