Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired from Yemeni territory towards Riyadh, according to a statement carried on the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The missile, which was fired at 8.07 pm, was brought down east of the King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, said Colonel Turki al-Maliki, spokesman for the coalition forces in Yemen.
No injuries were reported, the statement said.
Commenting on the attack, United States President Donald Trump said: “A shot was just taken by Iran, in my opinion, at Saudi Arabia. And our system knocked it down,” he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press, referring to the Patriot missile batteries Saudi Arabia has purchased from the US. “That’s how good we are. Nobody makes what we make and now we’re selling it all over the world.”
