Saudi Arabia needs only four big cement companies to cover the demand requirements, Jihad Al-Rashid, head of the National Committee of Cement Producers, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.
The market does not require the 17 cement companies to be present, which supports the idea of mergers, he said.
Cement producers have started to study this option, he added, noting that such a consolidation would help the government set better laws to regulate and promote the cement sector.
Recently, Tadawul-listed Arabian Cement started preliminary merger talks with Al Safwa Cement, Argaam reported.
