The Saudi Railways Company (SAR) plans to offer the Riyadh-Jeddah causeway project for private sector investment soon, chief executive Bashar Al Malik said.
The project includes building and operating the causeway, and is expected to start by the beginning of next year, he told Al-Eqtisadiah.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom has finished the majority of its railway network across its main regions, as the train of the North has started commercial operations, while Haramain rail, which ties Makkah and Madinah, is expected to start before the end of this year, Al Malik said.
Afterwards, work will launch on a new railway linking the Central and Eastern regions, in addition to developing the existing line, he said.
Train ticket prices will be competitive in comparison to airplane tickets although trips on both would have the similar durations.
