Saudi Water & Electricity Co. (WEC) has invited expressions of interest (EoIs) for the development of a reverse osmosis desalination plant in Rabigh, 150 kilometers north of Jeddah, according to a tender posted on its website on Wednesday.
The deadline for companies to submit EoIs is Aug. 31, 2017.
WEC will select a consortium to develop, finance, procure, implement, operate and maintain the desalination facility, which will produce up to 600,000 - 1,200,000 cubic meters per day of potable water.
The state-owned company is offering a 25-year concession to the developer or consortium to sell the plant's production under a water purchase agreement with the Saudi government.
Banque Saudi Fransi has been appointed as lead advisor for the project, while DLA Piper Middle East will serve as legal advisor.
