Saudi Arabia on Monday said it has disrupted an attack on its Marjan oilfield, capturing one of three boats that were seen moving toward the offshore field.

The three boats "bearing red and white flags" were spotted speeding toward the platforms of Marjan oilfield on Friday, state news agency SPA said.

The Saudi naval forces fired warning shots, but the boats did not respond.

“Consequently, one of the boats was captured, which was loaded with weapons for subversive purpose, while the other two escaped,” the statement said.

SPA did not name any suspects in the disrupted attack.

In April, Saudi border guards were said to have thwarted a terrorist attempt to blow up state-owned Saudi Aramco’s oil products distribution terminal in Jazan, using a booby-trapped boat.
