United Arab Emirates-based Etisalat Group has submitted a bid for the third mobile license in the Sultanate of Oman, the Abu Dhabi-listed telecom firm said in a statement on Wednesday.
Etisalat follows Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Telecom Co. and Kuwait’s Zain in bidding for the license.
“The bid is in line with Etisalat Group’s expansion strategy considering the market potential and similarities, footprint proximity to its core market, and likely synergies,” the company said.
Oman awarded its first mobile license to Omantel, while the second license was bagged by Oman Qatari Telecommunications Co. (Ooredoo Oman).
Qualified bidders for the new license will be announced on Aug. 14, 2017 by Omani’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
