Saudi Arabia has launched its energy diversification initiative under the National Transformation Program 2020 that aims to make renewable energy an essential component of the national energy mix.
The initiative aims to provide 3,450 megawatts of renewable energy, or 4 percent of Saudi’s energy, Hashim Abdullah Yamani, president of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) was reported as saying by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The renewable energy program will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8 million tons per year and save up to 18 million barrels of equivalent fuel. It will also provide 7,000 jobs for Saudi citizens.
