Saudi mutual fund assets drop 15% in 2016

The value of assets in Saudi Arabia’s mutual funds fell 15 percent year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 87.84 billion by the end of 2016, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.

 

The decrease was attributed to assets of foreign and local mutual funds declining 36 percent and 7 percent respectively YoY in the same period.

 On a quarterly basis, assets of mutual funds rose 17 percent to SAR 87.8 billion in Q4 2016, compared to SAR 81.8 billion the previous quarter.

The number of operating funds in the kingdom rose to 275 by the end of 2016, from 270 in 2015.

 

Meanwhile, the number of unit holders plunged 61 percent YoY to 224,411 for the same period.
