Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Jubail-based Karan Gulf Services for a new hotel in Saudi Arabia’s Wa’ad Al Shamal industrial city, the Swiss hospitality group said on Thursday.
The Mövenpick Hotel Wa’ad Al Shamal, which will target the corporate sector, is set to open in the second half of 2018.
The 237-room project will be the first international hotel in the kingdom’s Northern Region.
The hotel is expected to create about 100 jobs for male and female Saudi nationals, said Abdulrahman Al-Jabr, managing director of Karan Gulf Services said.
Saudi-listed Kingdom Holding Co. (KHC) owns 33.3 percent of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, which currently operates 11 hotels in the kingdom, with five more projects to be launched over the next three years in Al Khobar, Jeddah, Riyadh, and Wa’ad Al Shamal.
The Wa’ad Al Shamal industrial city is being developed by Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) to tap into the region’s significant phosphate reserves.
