Saudi Arabia, Egypt agree to build Red Sea bridge

Saudi Arabian King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz and Egyptian president Abdul Fattah Al Sisi have agreed to build a bridge connecting the two countries through the Red Sea.


King Salman announced the deal on Friday during his first official visit to Cairo. In a statement, he said the new causeway would boost trade between the kingdom and Egypt, support export growth and create new job opportunities.


In addition, 17 cooperation agreements worth $1.7 billion were signed between the two countries covering a variety of sectors including housing, transport, trade, education, nuclear and infrastructure, among others.


Earlier this week, Reuters reported that Riyadh and Cairo would plan to sign energy and development agreements worth $21.5 billon during King Salman's visit.
