Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), the kingdom's largest petrochemical producer, has launched commercial operations at its new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant in Yanbu Industrial City, ICIS quoted sources as saying on Thursday.
The new facility is owned by Ibn Rushd, in which SABIC holds a 45.19 percent stake, according to data compiled by Argaam. It has a designed production capacity of 420,000 tons per year.
SABIC did not yet provide further details on the plant's launch, which started pilot production in January.
The plant was initially scheduled to come online by the end of the fourth quarter of 2013, but the start-up date was postponed due to a delay in construction.
