Saudi Arabia cement factories to use alternative fuels

Saudi Arabia’s cement companies have started taking steps towards using alternative fuels in order to reduce energy costs at local factories.

The move will ease regulations for companies wishing to expand their plants because companies now won’t have to seek approval from authorities to use conventional fuel resources, said Abdullah Radwan, vice chairman of the national committee for construction at the council of chambers. 

Production costs at local companies had been increasing, along with foreign competition that came along with increased cement imports, Radwan was quoted as saying in Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

With many unfinished developmental projects across the kingdom, the decision also came as a result of high demand, he added.
