Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) plans to introduce a new range of advanced engineering materials for downstream industries for the first time in the kingdom, the company said in a statement.
The company will introduce produce Polyoxymethylene (POM) and Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA).
POM will be manufactured in 2016 at the National Methanol Company (Ibn Sina), Sabic’s Jubail-based manufacturing affiliate.
The Saudi Metacrylates Company, a newly established joint venture between Sabic and Mitsubishi Rayon Company in Jubail, will manufacture Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA) and Methyl Metacrylate (MMA).
PMMA production is expected to launch in 2017.
The new materials offer high-performance solutions for glass and metal replacements that can help customers reduce the weight of their products, add higher value, and respond to broader sustainability solutions, Sabic said.
