Kayan starts commercial production at Jubail plants

Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Company (Kayan) started commercial production from six of its major plants at Jubail Industrial City as of Saturday October 1, 2011 as follows:

  1. The olefins plant, which produces 1.478 million tonnes of ethylene, 630,000 tonnes of propylene, and 109,000 tonnes of benzene annually.
  2. The ethylene-oxide/ethylene-glycol plant, which produces 566,000 tonnes of monoethylene glycol and 41,000 tonnes of diethylene glycol annually.
  3. The phenolic plant, which produces 290,000 tonnes of kymene (isopropylbenzene), 220,000 tonnes of phenol, 135,000 tonnes of acetone and 240,000 tonnes of bisphenol A.
  4. The polypropylene plant which produces 350,000 tonnes annually.
  5. The high-density polyethylene plant which produces 400,000 tonnes annually.
  6. The polycarbonates plant which produces 260,000 tonnes annually.

The commercial operation of the plants will have a financial impact as of the fourth quarter of 2011, said Mutlaq Al-Morished, Chairman of Kayan.

Kayan is 35 percent owned by Sabic, and produces integrated petrochemical products from its base at Jubail Industrial City.
