US President Donald Trump threatened to impose an additional 50% tariffs on imports from China if Beijing does not roll back the retaliatory tariffs imposed on the US.
China's Ministry of Finance said last week it would impose 34% tariffs on all imports from the US, effective April 10, in response to Trump's reciprocal tariffs.
In a post on his “Truth” social platform on Monday, Trump said that China imposed retaliatory tariffs on top of its base tariffs, non-monetary duties, illegal subsidies to companies, as well as currency manipulation.
These retaliatory tariffs came despite Trump’s warning that any country that responds to the US tariffs will be met with much higher tariffs, calling on China to backtrack the retaliatory measures by tomorrow, Tuesday.
If China does not withdraw the tariffs, Washington will impose an additional 50% tariff on China from Wednesday, April 9, and will end all talks with Beijing, he said.
